Watches and cars – Part II

Extraterrestrial collection «Astronomia» from «Jacob & Co» has received this year’s new addition Extraterrestrial collection «Astronomia» from «Jacob & Co» has received this year’s new addition.

Her last masterpiece of steel watches «Astronomia Maestro», presented at Baselworld 2018.

«Astronomia Maestro» is definitely not the hours that should be taken lightly.

In the case of rose gold and sapphire watch is a complex mechanism that rotates under a glass dome.

Conceived and executed by Jacob Arabo, in partnership with watchmaker Luke Soprano, «Astronomia Maestro» takes viewers on a magical journey through outer space.

Through display sapphire diameter 50 mm, more like a porthole spacecraft, the viewer can enjoy the dance spectacular space objects.

The duo masters, who in recent years has developed and created several mechanisms for the collection «Astronomia», (including the first-ever vertical watch caliber, rotating about a central axis, and a rotating star map in «Astronomia Sky»), devoted a total of two years to implement «Astronomia Maestro».

Around the dial, located in the center, on four semi-axes mechanism moves “earthly sphere”, moon phase indicator, the famous triple-axis tourbillon «Jacob & Co», and the tiny figure astronaut in Gravity style.

Earth model, represented in hours, is made from lacquered magnesium, and rotates about its axis once every 30 seconds, while moving around the dial.

«Astronomia Maestro» is a very original moon phase indicator – a sophisticated black and white diamond with 288 facets.

Black and white half-diamond indicates a new moon or a full moon, as you can guess by the color of the stone.

“Moon” is rotated, making one revolution around the entire mechanism every 10 minutes and one revolution around its axis in 31 days.

On the outer metal ring is placed around the display scale date indicator.

“The highlight of the program” at this festival high mechanics became the tiny, lively figure astronaut in a spacesuit, which floats in weightlessness mechanical universe «Astronomia Maestro».

Figurine moves around the dial every 10 minutes and flipped every 30 seconds.

In addition, the “holiday” was the musical accompaniment in the form of a unique minute repeater with a carillon.

Repeater «Maestro» is the first in the history of watchmaking, and includes three hammers and three gong sounding three tones instead of the usual two.

Gongs, melody reproducing cathedral Carillon, arranged in a spiral over the main platinum, and they can be easily seen through the side wall of the housing.

Creating a melodic sound reminiscent church bell discourages minute repeater hours, quarters and minutes with varying pitch, passing from low to high.

In this case, the space available under the sapphire dome and wall clock provides a powerful and crystal clear sound.

fuzeynym repeater mechanism is equipped with a ratchet unit, wherein the required energy is provided for a drum rotating at high speed.

In addition, the patented system protects the mechanism from repeated pressing and damage.

In addition to the acoustic characteristics, «Astronomia Maestro» is considered a unique example of watchmaking thanks to its three-axis tourbillon.

Despite the fact that the original system was designed to prevent the action of the Earth’s gravity on the moving parts of the mechanism, the rotation on three axes adds to her effectiveness.

The carriage accommodating descent bypasses wheel balancer axis 60 seconds and completes the revolution around its axis in 2.

5 minutes.

At the same time, the entire tourbillon performs full cycle around the central axis 10 minutes.

Such a three-axis rotation provides exceptional accuracy of the unique caliber «Jacob & Co.

As a design quirk worth half a million euros, «Astronomia Maestro», nevertheless, is a typical example of the Swiss orthodox watchmaking.

The complexity of the clock mechanism construction makes them nearly impossible.

In the embodiment of his life required from the creators of rethinking and inventions in many of the new elements of the mechanism.
