Quickly measure the accuracy of your watch at your home

Bonjour, amateurs de montres et lecteurs de mon blog!

Watches are an accessory that has been rapidly gaining popularity in recent years. What is a watch for? – To measure and determine time . For some, a watch is nothing more than a decoration, for others it is a tool. One way or another, the accuracy of watches has been their most important indicator since ancient times . And it is not at all surprising that many want to be aware of the accuracy of their particular instrument.

Today I will tell you how you can measure the accuracy of your mechanical watch yourself, without leaving your home.

All we need is a smartphone et Internet access to download the required application. There are actually quite a few applications for measuring the accuracy of watches, but I use the ” Watch Accuracy Meter ” application for the Android system . In my opinion, it is the most flexible, convenient and intuitive . There are also applications Watch Check, Clock Tuner, and others .

The way the app works is pretty simple. To begin with, you need to select the frequency of oscillations of the mechanism of your watch. If you don’t know this, or don’t want to press something again, there is an ” Auto ” mode , where the program automatically determines the frequency of oscillations of the mechanism , and subsequently the accuracy of the clock .

After choosing one of the modes, you should find a quiet place, put the watch as close to the phone’s microphone as possible and press the “Start” button.

Using the microphone, the phone will “hear” the ticking of the clock and compare it with the reference , creating a pattern in the form of dots, which clearly shows how fast ou late your watch est .

Especially for this, there is a normalized table on top , showing the ideal value (0) in the center et positive and negative errors diverging to the sides . By the way, the standards of the COSC chronometer (-4 / + 6 seconds per day) are also separately marked on this table.

Here, by the way, what results I got when I tested my Seiko 5 Sports on a 4R36 mechanism with an incomplete winding in a prone position.

The tool, in my experience, shows real values (and I checked three hours ), on the basis of which you can draw conclusions about the need to adjust / maintain certain hours . Or, on the contrary, it can please you with the accuracy of the chronometer 🙂

The described method has many advantages , the main of which is the absence of the need for a timeograph (a tool that determines the accuracy of watches ) et le need to go to the nearest watchmaker . The smartphone makes it all much more convenient and faster .

I hope this article will be useful to you!
