But even for those who are not at all interested in races, the edge of the ear heard the name Carroll Shelby and barely represents how his Cobra car looked, a new limited chronograph from Baume & Mercier will become the amazing discovery of this year.
In 1965, Carroll Shelby on the Cobra 427 car won at the FIA ​​International Championship in the GT class among manufacturers. This event has entered the history of races as an example of an inflexible human spirit. After the health problems forced her Shelby, one of the best riders of the 1950s, to finish the sports career, he was engaged in the design of his own “dream car”, whose idea was shelled for several years. He himself designed the chassis and body for the 8-cylinder Ford Motor 427 cm 3 and a capacity of 500 liters. with. And he himself came up with the capacious name – Cobra. In 1965, the Shelby Cobra team ranked first on races in Diton, Sebringa, Le Mana, Monza, a total of 11 out of 20 races of the GT championship, returning an international racing trophy for the first time in 40 years.
Create a dream chronograph, worthy of such a progenitor, is not easy task. Therefore, Baume & Mercier designers made a bet on nontrivial solutions. For example, the dial is inspired not only with a SHELBY COBRA dashboard, but also a famous blue hood with two wide stripes. At the same time, the strips themselves are covered with luminescent composition and gently flicker in the dark.
The series is released in two versions: in steel with automatic chronograph caliber and in gold with a flyback chronograph. Mechanisms are made by order Baume & Mercier on LA JOUX-PERRET. The edition of the steel version is 1965 copies, and golden – 98 as a reminder of the personal starting room of Carroll Shelby, whose autograph decorates the back cover of all Capeland Shelby Cobra models.
